2023 Dentist of the Year
The Northern District Dental Society is proud to announce Dr. Henry Benson as the newest recipient of the Michael T. Rainwater Dentist of the Year Award Dr. Henry Benson has been in private practice since 1978 and is an Atlanta native. After completing two years of his undergraduate degree at Auburn University he transferred to Emory University to finish his Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Dr. Benson also obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Emory in 1978. He has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation at the Dental College of Georgia in Augusta and is very active in the local District, State, and National dental organizations.
Dr. Benson is committed to helping his patients maintain optimal dental health and is dedicated to serving the community both locally through volunteer organizations and through national advocacy.
Locally he is active with his church, The Cathedral of St. Philip, previously serving on the Chapter (governing board), finance team, outreach, and usher team. He has assisted in the building of 19 (and counting) Habitat for Humanity homes in the Metro Atlanta area.
Dr. Benson has two sons, Matthew and Christopher. Matthew is a general dentist practicing in Cape Coral, Florida. He and his wife, Trish, have provided “Pop Pop” with two amazing grandsons. Christopher passed away in 2005 while a student at Auburn University but lives on in many wonderful memories. Dr. Benson’s partner in life and at the office is his also amazing wife, Lesley, whom he shares a grandson with named Theo.
In his spare time Dr. Benson enjoys traveling, outdoor cooking on his Traeger, and attempting to re-establish his mediocre golf game and Auburn University football.
