Dr. Troy Schulman introduces himself and shares highlights of the year ahead.
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Fall is in the air and that means football season has begun and the best tailgating food in the world - gumbo and jambalaya - are being served! As fall progresses, here in the Northern District I would like to give a shout out to Dr. Ryan Vaughn for serving as our district president the past year. His leadership advanced us to the level where we can serve our members with more exciting events and meetings this year. My promise is to continue where he left off, leading our district in this positive direction.
We started off the year with our annual Gala for Smiles “Bourbon Street Ball,” held August 19 at City Winery in Ponce City Market. Wow, what an evening! It included a bourbon and bacon tasting, an amazing southern dinner buffet, live music from Trey Dahl and the Jugtime Ragband, and great fellowship. Thanks to all who attended and to our incredible sponsors. We ended the night raising more funds than ever for the Greater Atlanta Dental Foundation, which supports dental clinics in metro area. Thank you to Dr Amy Kuhmichel and the Gala planning committee for all your hard work to make this event a success.
Our first Executive Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 18. We conduct the business of the society at these meetings, while listening to you, the members. If you would like to get further involved with the society at any level, please come to this meeting and see what interests you. There is something for everyone in the committee structure -- finance, governmental affairs and public relations -- to name a few. Everything we do as an organization affects you, your family and the patients you treat. Your involvement is important in keeping our organization strong in order to protect the ever-changing face of oral healthcare.
Speaking of changes in our practices, September 27 is your chance to hear first-hand about the new Hygiene Law, Opioid Law and proposed governance structure changes within your GDA. The GDA officers in addition to our Executive Director and Legal Counsel, as well as State Representative Deborah Silcox will be presenting at Villa Christina. This is our first membership meeting of the year and not only will it be informative, but we’ll recognize our newest members. So, come out for some food and fellowship. Let your voices be heard.
Another event you don’t want to miss is the ADA Annual Meeting, which is in Atlanta this year. We want Georgia to have the best meeting yet. So, go online to register and volunteer at gadental.org/ada2017
I want to encourage all of you to check our website www.ndds.org
for the full calendar of events for the 2017-2018 year and attend as many meeting and events as possible. I invite you to stay connected on social media by liking and following our Facebook page - GDA Northern District Dental Society.
Thank you all for the confidence you have placed in me to lead our district this year and thank you to all the committee chairs who have come forth to volunteer their time this year. Your efforts and involvement is the only way our organization can make a difference in our practices and to the patients we treat.
